Ring bus isolator/module

The ring bus modules – TRT series

The modules of the TRT series reliably monitor speaker and ring bus lines, detect faults such as short circuits or earth faults, and therefore contribute to a safe and fault-resistant voice alarm and public address installation.

The TRT-200 A ring bus isolator is a module certified according to EN 54-17 for monitoring speaker lines in electroacoustic emergency warning and voice alarm systems.

The ring bus isolators are linked in the speaker ring line and transmit audio signals from the voice alarm system and the ring bus controller to the speakers.

The ring bus isolator monitors the connection lines of the ring bus input, ring bus output and speaker connection for short circuits, interruptions and earth faults.

If a fault occurs, this information is immediately sent to the TRC-800 A ring bus controller. At the same time, the ring bus isolator initiates the required action, such as switching off the ring bus line on the short-circuit section. The ring bus indicator LED shows on which side of the ring bus isolator the fault source is located.

All speakers must always be connected via a DC blocking capacitor (TRK-001 A).

Features:

  • Find and isolate short circuits in adjacent speaker lines.
  • Find and isolate interruptions, short circuits and overloads at branch points.

The TRT-400 A connection unit for speakers with volume control is a module certified according to EN 54-17 for use in electroacoustic emergency warning and voice alarm systems.

The connection unit does not have an isolating function and is therefore always used between two isolators (TRC-800 A or TRT-200 A).

The TRT-400 A ring bus module with 60 W volume control can be used for two applications:
1. Individual adjustment: to individually adjust the volume of subordinate background sound reinforcement.
2. Separate 100 V programme: to play a separate background sound programme via the connected speaker circuit.

In both cases, the volume control is bypassed in the event of an alarm or during priority announcements. Power supply and control are then provided via the higher-level speaker ring bus line.

Features:

  • Find and isolate short circuits in adjacent speaker lines.
  • Find and isolate interruptions, short circuits and overloads at branch points.
  • Individual volume adjustment in rooms.
  • Playback of a separate 100 V programme via the connected speaker line.

The TRT-300 A ring bus module is an emergency switching unit and not a ring bus isolator. It is looped into the ring bus in order to automatically switch off subordinate sound reinforcement in the event of an alarm or emergency announcement.

The ring bus module has two potential-free changeover contacts (230 V AC / 8 A). For example, in the event of an alarm, the first relay contact can switch on flashing lights and the second relay contact can switch off the speakers. This allows priority circuits to be activated via the 100 V speaker line. These are required when priority alarms or announcements need to be played into the affected area.

Power is supplied via the ring line. A capacitor charged by the ring bus controller stores enough energy for at least two emergency cycles.

Features:

  • Two potential-free high-current relay contacts (230 V AC / 8 A) for automatically interrupting the subordinate local programme, for example for emergency announcements.
  • Power is supplied via the ring line. Stores energy for at least two emergency cycles.
  • In addition to priority switching, additional attention indicators such as flashing lights can also be switched.

The TRC-800A ring bus controller is the central unit in the VARES LOOP system. The controller is positioned between the power amplifiers and the speaker line. It supplies the ring bus modules, such as the TRT-200 A, with voltage and handles monitoring and data exchange between the ring bus modules and the electroacoustic warning system (ENS or VAS).

The ring bus modules can be switched to different modes via the ring bus controller operating software:
Service mode: Service mode is used for setting up and commissioning the VARES LOOP system.
Tracking mode: During tracking, the software determines which ring bus isolator has detected a fault.

Features:

  • The TRC-800A controller monitors whether a power amplifier is connected.
  • Monitoring of the connected lines for earth fault, short circuit and interruption.
  • A speaker group may provide sound reinforcement for an area of max. 1,600 m2 and must not exceed one fire compartment.
  • If a fault occurs, the fault signalling contact is activated and the following operating states are displayed:
    – Ring bus short circuit
    – Ring bus earth fault
    – Ring bus interruption
    – Amplifier input open
    – Amplifier input earth fault
